Default glueing carpet on bunks

using p/t 2x4s with a commerical carpet used in subway cars , can i use contact cenmet

Sure,
Use contact on the carpet and then use stainless staples on the back side of the bunk.

If you have a tin boat seal the p/t 2x4 with a good marine sealer first. Then you can use contact cement or another type of oil base glue. I like the oil base glues since you can move the carpet around some after it touches the 2x4. Also I glue the top and side but not the bottom of the 2x4 and staple the bottom on with stainless steel staples.

Waterproof carpet glue flakes is what most places use, it doesn't dry hard more like rubber. You can buy it premixed at any home hardware supplier if you don't want to deal with mixing, it's what they use to glue outdoor carpet to concrete steps etc.

Very cheap and available anywhere.
