Charging trolling batt. 24v
Just installed two deep cycle batteries for a trolling motor. 1 positve and 1 negative to the motor and a jumper between + and - When I charge them can I just hook two chargers one to each battery + to + and - to - without disconnecting the jumper between the two? Would be a pain to have to disconect anything. I do not have a onboard charger so I will be using two separate chargers.

I've had a Schumaker 10 amp, 12/24 volt charger for years, and it has been very reliable. It has settings for either voltage, starting or deep cycle battery, auto or manual charging. They are available for around $85 at a number of internet stores.

my onboard charger charges my 2 trolling motors with separate leads to each battery and I never disconnect the jumper.
I'm considering adding one of these http://store.minnkotamotors.com/prod...K_2_DC_(2_bank) or these http://www.yandina.com/troll24info.htm so that my main motor will charge trolling batteries while running out to or in between fishing spots. anyone have any experience with either one? |

If this don't work check out electronics section. Unless you have very long runs between spots it's really not worth the expense.

If you are using two discrete chargers, this is really nothing different from a two bank onboard charger. The only thing I suggest is unplugging your trolling motor. (if you can) My electric bow mount trolling motor is fed from two 12V batteries in series and I usually unplug my motor prior to applying 110 VAC power to my onboard chargers.

As in many other cases, the answer is "it depends".
As long as the two chargers have isolated outputs there should not be a problem. If the negative side of the chargers are grounded to the case and the power cord, then you will have a direct short across one of the batteries and one of the wires will probably burn up. Jerry |

You don't need to disconnect anything! Just connect one charger or one bank of multi bank... to each battery. A charger works on what's connected between the + and - terminals, it isolates 1 battery when connected correctly. I had this same quesiton when I upgraded to 24volt Terrova. Think about it, if this was an issue wouldn't chargers be sold as 24 volt and 36volt. There sold as 12 volt, 1, 2, and 3 bank. Each bank charges 1 12 volt battery. We would also see Minn Kota selling battery disconnect switches just for charging your batteries. I don't want to offend anyone on this but trying to find an answer to this question is clouded by a lot of miss information on this site. Again, sorry if I have offended anyone.
