Smartcraft
Just got my new boat and love it. Except for the Smartcraft gauge. My last boat had the Yamaha gages that looked alot better and did more things. The best display was the how many miles per a gallon of gas. With this I could fine tune the motor to get the best gas milage. The Sc only has how many gallons per hour. So the best reading I get is at idle at the dock but that is no fun. I know I can do some calculating but does not make sence to be running down the lake with a calculator in my hand all day. What am I missing here?

These can be hooked up to display speed which then will also yelid the mpg. You'll need to read the manual as it is very likley many of the options on the smartcraft gauge are either turned off or disabled due to lack of sensors (which can be added). Personally I have no problem looking at my GPS for speed and the smartcraft system monitor for gallons per hour, I mean 20 gph at 60 mph is pretty easy to figure that I'm getting 3 mpg and 9 gph at 40 mph is 4.4 mpg or so. I can only get to about 5.5 so it isn't like the mpg window of 3-5.5 mpg is that large anyway. I might be able to squeaze 6 mpg out of it if I really try but I cann't see any reason to drive 25-30 mph unless conditions are that unfavorable, in which case I'll be on and off the throttle for boat control and MPG is the last thing on my mind.

Look at your gals per hour... then look at your speed.
It's pretty easy to figure your mpg. at any speed. |

The Smartcraft Speedometer will display the fuel economy your looking for. The Smartcraft Tachometer can NOT be hooked to gps for fuel economy, but can display mph with a paddle wheel.
