Lottsa good memories of running wide open between the rocks etc. on the way to the PWT '93 win. You can be in 20' of water and 10 feet one way or the other in 1 ft.!

Rainy River
Hi Steve, I seen you up here at the Long Sault fishing by our biggest burial mound in Canada. The shiners are starting to come in, I can see them jumping out of the water on the shoreline. I will be out tomorrow below the Manitou, lets yous all know tomorrow.....with a report.

"Rainy River bite is on"
I was out on Sunday afternoon for about 3 hours, caught lots of fish and the biggest one being 4lbs. I anchored the boat in one place so I didn't move around at all, I believe the big cowbeenas are here. We kept 28 eaters and let the ones over 18inches back in the river. smaller fish are the best eating anyways.
I imagine if the walleye are up here they must be going gang busters at the Long Sault. |

Any recent reports?
I am sure that at least a few people were out fishing this weekend. Any reports? Not looking for anything specific, just generalization about numbers caught, water temps, current, etc? Any other info anyone wants to post will be greatly appreciated too.
Thanks in advance for any info. I will be on my way up in a week. Can't wait. KC |

We are finding 60.5 F on the lake for surface temp....it warmed up 5 degrees this week....I am sure the river did the same....been dead calm for 3 days too.....temps in the mid 70's... Walleyes are hitting big minnows and shinners on the lake in 18' of water off of points and reefs.

Recent activity?
This thread is pretty quiet. I can't believe that nobody is fishing the river with the weather being how it has been.
Looks to me like the river temp is trending down and is around the 54 degree mark right now. I will be heading up from KC in a few days. I can't wait. I would appreciate any updated info that anyone wants to share. Thanks. KC |

Rainy River
I can tell you the walleye are going nuts in t he river right now, I met some guys that came all the way up to the Manitou from River Bend in Baudette. They said it was the best fishing they had ever seen, way better here then where all the lodges are in Baudette. But of course they might not be the best of fishermen and were unable to get on a good bite down there, you put guys up here and they are guarenteed to catch fish.
Fish are biting everything right now, every technique I try....works. The big gurls aren't here in force yet but we are catching a few up to 10lbs, by big gurls I mean the ones over 10lbs.........still hope to do better then the 36incher caught. |
