Default Honda 8 or 9.9hp Kicker

Anybody out there running a Honda 8 or 9.9hp Kicker. If so, can you tell me how you like it, and any pro's or con's of ownership? I'm thinking about putting one on my 1800 Pro V next spring.

I had a 2013 Honda 9.9 High Thrust installed last month on my Lund 1700 Prosport. It has its own controls, 4 blade prop, tilt, electric start, and pull start just in case. I use it to troll for Muskies and I am very pleased. It sips gas, is very quiet, and has plenty of thrust for boat control, even in reverse around the docks. I am very happy with it so far. John

We have a 9.9 electric start with forward controls on a 1850 ranger. Trolls just above an idle, handles the boat well, sips gas and easy to do your own oil changes.

Default Go 9.9

If trolling were the sole criteria I would go with the 8, but overall the 9.9 is the better choice. 9.9 is much better as an emergency main, much better bursts of power, and, importantly, has a higher alternator output to power your electronics, lights, etc.. In either case electric start and power tilt makes life much easier. Good luck!

Default Honda 8 and 9.9hp kicker motors

Thanks for the responses. They all confirmed what I'd been hearing about the 8 and 9.9 hp Honda motors.

I had a honda 9.9 high thrust w 25" shaft I sold this past fall. Was a good motor with plenty of power and very quiet and smooth running. Only thing was it wanted to be warmed up very well in cold winter weather. Once warmed up a little she was nice and smooth, just made it a little bit of a pain on 9.9 restricted lakes when its your primary source of power. I just started it as I was getting done fishing a spot so it had a min or two to warm up til I headed for next spot

Default Decision Made

I will be ordering a 9.9 next weekend. I just have to confirm what shaft length in need. I'm pretty sure it's 20, but I want to make sure. Can anyone confirm this?

My boat is a 2008, 1800 Pro V IFS with a 25 inch transom.
