Default T8 trolling Speed

I am thinking of getting a T8 for trolling with my 18' Alaskan Tiller. I was wondering if it will troll slow enough to get to .8 miles per hour? I have a 5 HP 4 stroke Honda which I can't get slow enough but it is a 1999 model. The reeason I am going to T8 is I am tired of the noise coming from the one cylinder.

Thanks

I don't troll that slow with my T8, but I think it will
get to .8.

I can get down to 1.2 on a 1850 glass boat trimmed down...if I want to go slower and I often do, I trim up. I can get down to about .8. If I need to get slower, the electric works fine.

Throw a drift sock or 2 over the bow and it will go as slow as you want it to go.

Although I may not be up on tiller boats, my next boat will for sure be a tiller.

I am having a hard time understanding why a guy needs a kicker on these boats? I thought the whole idea was to have one main motor and if you wanted to slow down, back troll like they were designed to do? I plan on having a vantage when I go to a tiller, so I can really slow down if need be.

Back to the original question, I do have a T8 and can get close to 1mph, althought on a much heavier boat. Like was said, there are many things you can do to get your speed down to a crawl. I would think an electric on the back would be much cheaper, but I don't know how you fish.....

I have a kicker on my tiller for a few reasons.......it's great for slow trolling forward, it keeps me consistent in stronger winds, lets me go forward or backtroll, saves fuel, keeps hours off my main motor, much simplier to operate when fishing alone than deploying a drift sock as mentioned, peace of mind......just in case of a motor problem it will get me home slowly instead of being towed, if you've ever experienced motor failure you'll understand. just my .02 My gps reads down to .08 for my T8

that answers my question!!!! Yes, I have had to come home on a kicker once, and it was due to a battery issue of all things!!! Makes sense to me....
