Looking on line seeing alot of players coming into ice auger market. (Rapala, Clam)
See Rapala bought Strike Master and Moral and have a Rapala Tundra Ice Drill. Clam is coming with New Edge Ice Auger( is alot like old Strike Master with German motor), Strike Master using Honda motor now, and Clam Drill conversion kit ice auger. Plus Jiffy come out with new light weight auger. Jiffy has a new propane auger which weighs quite a bit less than their other propane auger. http://www.thefishinhole.com/index.c...oduct&se=27765

I plan on adding an electric auger bit for my Milwaukee 18volt drill. Have not decided yet if it is going to be a Nills or K-drill. The K-drill runs double the cost as the Nills. Either way I will still have my StrikeMaster for back up.

How do you plan on using the auger? I have a gas-powered Nils, and it's great in virgin ice. I've tried reopening holes from the day prior, and it won't work for that - the auger jumps all over the place. I see the K-Drill has ripper blades, which work better for re-opening holes. If you want a cheaper solution, Strikemaster makes some pretty good augers for drill applications too. |

I plan on hitting the St. Paul Ice show in December and looking at all the options. Right now I am leaning towards the Nills or K-Drill but the price tag on the K-drill is quite high IMHO. |

With a Strikemaster auger, you need a drill adapter such as this, which is purchased separately from the auger. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Ice-M...h-All+Products The guys at the Ice Show will be able to get you what you need. Whichever auger you choose, I would highly recommend getting one with either a safety strap or safety disk. The chucks on the battery-powered drills tend to get loose and before you know it, you've donated your auger to the lake. The safety strap or disk systems keep the auger from falling down the hole. Another option for you is the drill adapter that Clam is coming out with this year. It has handles just like a power auger, and it's somehow hooked up to your drill's trigger. Rumor has it this adapter will work with most namebrand augers, or you can purchase a Clam auger. I haven't seen this in person yet, just on their website. http://clamoutdoors.com/ice_fishing/...ersionkit.html |
