Well

I for one always like the full cork handles
But the rod company that I liked went to split grips. So I did buy one a couple years ago
And these days I do like the split grip better, It's tappered back and fits and feels better to me
So while I have a few rods left that are full cork handles, Most of the rods are now split grips

Try one you might like them

Here's a few other trends that I've noticed
Rods are going to Mico guides. I'm one the fence with that one
And they gettting longer.

I have both and prefer the split, my next rod will definitely be split grip, and i may go with EVA.

I won a split grip rod and used it twice, gave it away.
Different strokes for different folks I know, but the split handle does not work with my style of fishing.

Cost of cork may be a reason but I just picked up a cabela's spinning rod at our fishing clubs raffle and it has cork handles and sells for $40.

Unless it's fake cork.

I'd tend to think split grips are another latest, greatest thing to come along to get people to buy stuff, some may like it, some not.

But imho I see no advantage to splitting the grips.

Default Fascinitin' stuff, REW. . .

When my wife asks me what I did today, I can tell her that I learned a lot about cork.

A short discourse on any kind of material that makes my favorite things more expensive is always welcome!

Great information on cork Rew. I honestly didn't know jack about cork but that puts things into perspective. I own cork and eva grips, have grips in both that I love and seen grips in both I hate. Cheap cork flat out sucks, some of it is so bad I'd rather have a chunk of plastic over it. Have one split grip rod, some eva and some cork on the grips, and I'm very happy with it.

I have a Fenwick rod, the handle of which I rebulit, due to it having a split grip, which I didn't like . I bought the rod maybe 20 years ago, so the concept isn't exactly state-of-the-art. I remember buying pretty good 1/2"" cork rings for a nickle/ ring. One of the earlier price increase reasons given at that time was that for a while,( maybe still?)women's shoes with cork soles were in vogue, and it was said that most of the cork supply was being walked on.
