Default Change from exl shaft to long shaft

Recently purchased a 2002 9.9 High Thrust Remote 4 stroke Yamaha Ex-long shaft.

Put on my 86 Alumacraft that has 20 transom-seems to be too long.

Anyone out there know if this could be moved down to a 20" shaft motor.

I'd be willing to swap out parts for anyone wanting an ex-longshaft

Default Too Long

Can you explain what you mean by to long. What is the motor interfering with to make it too long.

Default Too Long?

The cavitation plate is lower than the bottom of the transom and the skeg is only inches from the ground. It is a 20" transom but motor is 25" shaft. Also because where the cables go into this motor there is very little clearance between the back deck and cable inlet. So when I go to lift the motor because of shallow water, stumps, or trailering it will jamb the cable ferrels into the rear deck--not good on cables hey?
