2010 WX1990 Skeeter Yamaha F225 Offshore 4.2L 9.9 kicker 3 batteries up front 1 in the back 50+ gallons of gas. With 4 guys livewell in the back full still runs 49 on the GPS. Still great hole shot.

I have the F225 on my 21MSX, decent hole shot and good mid range and top end. Run 53-54 with full tourney load including 50 gallons of gas. So quiet I sometimes forget it's running until I see the water coming out.

Walleye503 I am currently running the same set-up your thinking of buying. I run a 2009 Ranger 619 with a 225 Yamaha 4 stroke. I have a T-8 kicker on the back as well. When I got the boat from Ranger they had installed a Yami 3 blade 23 pitch prop. I changed that for a Merc Rev 4 21 pitch. The reason was I could easily over rev the engine. Now I run 5800-6000 and get 56 mph on GPS by myself. When tournament loaded it runs 52-53 mph. My opinion is there's probably a better prop out there for this set-up than the Rev 4 but I don't have the money to find it. The Rev 4 can be a little finicky especially in rough water. All in all I'm very happy with it. And as far as the motor it's Awsome !!! But I've never had a problem with my Yamaha's.

Walleye,
For folks who worry about hole shot on any motor - change the prop until you get the hole shot that you want. Top end and hole shot is always a trade off. If you have a need for a super hole shot, simply put on a lower pitch prop with as large a diameter as will fit inside the cavitation plate and also with the maximum number of blades on the prop. The hole shot will snap you out of your seat. You might be a bit slower on the top end, but you will have head snapping hole shot. On the other hand, if you are willing to give up hole shot, you can generally gain top end. If you can take a 1/4 mile to get on plane, you can often gain 5 mph in top speed. Most folks don't want to take a 1/4 mile to get on plane, so will give up some top speed, will go to a lower pitch larger diameter prop to get better hole shot. Everything in life is a trade off. In this case, you can trade hole shot for top speed, or you can trade top speed for hole shot - your choice. By the way, any motor can cause problems. Any motor can be a maintenance or reliability night mare. In this case, the motor has an excellent reputation for both quality, reliable running and low maintenance. Yamaha as a company is well known the world around for quality outboard motors and has the entire world market when it comes to both 2 and 4 stroke outboard motors. Good luck REW |

I fished from a boat with one in Florida this year. It was nearly silent at idle..very nice. At open throttle it was actually the opposite. Fairly loud running, but ran great.
