Agree with REW, there is no reason an acadia, equiped with a towing package, can't tow that boat 60 miles on occassion. I think we are so used to having an abundance of size and power to tow that we begin thinking it's always necessary. We have traveled in Europe some (some of you may have also) and when you see the campers, boats and farm trailers they pull with their little pickups and even cars it reminds us we "overkill" a bit here in the states. Spend some time on the west coast and you'll also see some of the same thing. Good brakes on the trailer and decide you don't need to go 75 and you'll be fine.

We have an Acadia with the towing package. Have towed my Ranger 620 on several trips, (actually my wife has done the towing). No problems. My wife states that the boat tows well, and she has not felt any braking problems or trailer pushing the Acadia. Put the Acadia in "tow haul" mode and it should be good to go. But, don't be dumb and try to tow at 75 MPH. Tow at 55 - 60 and fully realize you have a load behind you.

not a chance. No Frame. Terrible engine, terrible transmission. When you blast me for telling you this is among the worst vehicle made right now I will at a later date ask for a 100,000 mile review and you can tell me how that vehicle has been then. Thankfully you have a 100k powertrain warranty. Ford also is having issues with this same 6 speed trans but they don't have timing chain issues like this does. Don't pull with this thing get rid of it. You'll thank me later.

I was looking at one in front of me at the stop light yesterday and was thinking how in the world would you back up a 620 with those little mirrors? What a PIA that would be. I pull my 620 with a F150 with the regular mirrors and with the cover on I cannot safely see behind me on the road. I can't imagine what it would be like with an Acadia.

If you have to ask the question whether or not it's a good tow vehicle...it's probably not. there isn't a chance in **** I'd tow that boat with that rig. You're going to ruin your car, your boat, and maybe someone else's life. Think about that for a minute.

Really if you can afford a Ranger 620 you should have a descent 3/4 ton tow vehicle or get a smaller boat.

acadia towing 620VS
IMO you can never have too much tow vehicle. The absolute last thing you want is the tail wagging the dog. Have to agree with Buck on this one as everyone else missed the boat in regards to the safety factor. Precisely the reason I've started my business. Check it out.

I do have to admit in deference to some of the other posts, that this is a pretty big rig to be pulling with a vehicle of this size. But also as some of the posts have suggested, if you only have the one vehicle and if your tows are short and your speeds reasonable, and if you drive very defensively, the vehicle will tow the boat. You will be able to get it in and out of launches, especially if you have AWD on the vehicle. But, as is always the case in these instances, drive very carefully, and give other drivers a huge amount of room. If the car begins to labor at all, be sure to shift down, so that you don't overload the transmission and drive train. Gears work just fine to match the load to the power. But, you certainly don't want to be driving 65=75 down the road with 10 feet of separation between you and the car in front of you. Be safe and always think of others. REW |
