Depending on the year of boat and motor ya that is plenty of ponies. Mine pushes anywhere from 35 to 42 depending on load.
Call around to the dealers close to you and see if they have a display model. I got mine at $1000 off because people had actually walked on it!

Like Snowman I also have a 20 foot Alaskan SS (just got a couple months ago). I am really surprised there isn't a lot more alaskans around as they are a fantastic boat. The console is pretty basic so it doesn't take up much space. I also troll a lot and really like all the room in the back as well. I have trolled with up to 6 rods without planer boards (4 bottom bouncers/2 long line). I have had many friends in my boat who own 16-18 ft boats and they are all amazed by the amount of space and how stable the boat is. That extra couple feet really do make a difference. They also commented that it doesn't catch the wind nearly as bad as theirs either (guys with polarcraft and starcraft deep-v's). Mine also has the 115 Merc (2-stroke) and performance is decent enough. I am topping out at 37 GPS with a banged up aluminum prop.
Snowman, what prop are you running on your rig? I am looking to replace my beat up prop with a nice stainless and figured I should be able to get 42 or so out of my rig with the right prop. How high do you have your motor mounted? I am working on rod holders for my boat and will post pictures when I am done. I currently have 4 scottys mounted to the gunwales using the rail mount (bottom 2 bolts go thru the side of the boat) which works pretty well and then I am adding bert rails in the back next to the rod holders to fit 8" risers and 3 per side of the ratcheting rod holder. |
