Default 621 performance with 300 Etec2 or 300 Verado

Looking at maybe buying a late model used 621. Many have Verados, a few have the new style Etec 300's. I imagine there are not many people that have rode or driven in both, but would like to hear opinions on either on that particular hull. Looking at 2015 or newer if I buy Etec, 2012 or newer if Verado. What top speed are people seeing with one person in boat, just to compare to what I have now? Is the Etec oil alot higher priced than my Optimax oil?

If you do a lot of idling or family cruising in the boat I'd say Verado, they are quiet, have no odour, and maintenance costs are lower. For a die hard fishing rig or tournament fishing I'd go etec. Etec will give a slightly higher top end and more mid range punch. Warranty on the etec is also amazing.

The 621 from 2012 to 2014 were VS model boats with some made in 2015, but the majority in 2015 were FS models. In my opinion the FS models are a little slower but not by much then the VS models and both handle a Verado nicely. The speed of these boats is in the upper 50tys with the boat loaded. I had a G1 Etec with no complaints and the G2 is suppose to be better and the boat performs different with a lighter engine and the speed is similar. The oil consumption is around 50:1 if propped right and as far as oil price I always bought my oil from Domo oil in Florida and they ship it right to your door and it is about the same price as the Opti oil. The self winterizing feature on the Etec is nice and both motors are quiet but the Verado wins this hands down.

E-TEC XD-100 oil is pricey, around $47 per gallon but if you by from DOMO (Discount Online Marine Oil) you can save some money, especially if you purchase 6 gallons at once and many times they will send you a coupon code that will take off just over $9 off the already discounted oil. . . get on their mailing list to receive said coupon codes.

Default Evinrude 300 on a Ranger 621

An Evinrude E-TEC G2 300 HP averaged about 59.9 at 5500 rpm with an RX-4 22" prop on a new 621. This was an average of 2 runs, 180 degrees apart for accuracy with 2 people on board.

It ran just over 60 mph on a one way run.

The Verano requires an extra battery also they require yearly oil changes

The oil change is way more convenient then having to add oil and the extra battery is if you want to add a kicker using the steering wheel. As far as price between the two in regards to oil just do the math. 50:1 is roughly one pint of oil for six gallons of gas and not all Etec engines have programable oil injection. The Etec winterization feature is definitely going to be more convenient and cost effective then the Verado. So it could be a push as far as operating costs.

It's also worth noting that the Verado can be flashed to 340/350 hp if you desire.
