That was a wonderful job.
But why did you use plywood? Sure plywood is available and easy to machine, but if you had used a plastic cutting board - also easy to obtain and easy to machine - you would have no finish or moisture problems with the board.

Great work.

Good call REW,
A black board would look awesome, and match your other panels.

plywood is what I had in the shop, finshed product is covered with carpet, nice little spot for other stuff also, carpet hides the inperfections of my saw also, no need to worry about rot in Colorado weather, now I have a 2012 Ranger with wood in it!! Actually the visablitly is about what I had with old boat and HDS10 on Dash, not great but you can look over or to the side, maybe thats why my back is screwed up! I suspect Ranger changed the dash so the sonar could be flush mount in line of site, the old style dash had sonar down on lower right side, not a good place either, put it sure gave allot more options for mounting on a ram. allot of +/- old vs new, I will be building some shelf also , real simple to make some like old model had but for the money they should have been allready in there, like the carpet on stern hatchs and little storage shelves with toe catch, glove box way to small for no reason, look under pass side and ton of room for bigger box( got some more plywood).....lol....love it or what ever just giving you guys some ideas that have the newer dash....

I could probably make you guys a cover out of carbon fiber or fiberglass, plastic, or even CNC aluminum if there was a design you liked. I will look at my Dad's Reata this weekend and see what would lay out nice.

This is what they do at the factory to make space for an 8 or a 10. Looks like it probably lowers it a little over what OP created. My dealer just sent me this picture so I haven't seen it in person. I will have to wait until the boat arrives and then post pictures with the HDS 8 installed.

Since they are made in the same facility that isn't hard to believe.
