If you think your police will be that slow, don't take refuge in a room without a second exit. My basement has small windows, not "bedroom" standard.

When seconds count the cops will be there in minutes. Or something like that.
Cops cant defend people form random acts of violence. All they can do is try and find out who did it.

Maybe in Woodbury they are there in minutes, here in low buck Mpls they take a bit longer..

Cops are great for revenue generating (speed traps) and that's about it, defend yourself and don't count on them.

A recent posting in the handguns forum in 24hourcampfire forums will answer a lot of questions.
The thread is titled "Primer: Realities of Self Defense With a Handgun". The thread has become very long, but reading the first five pages or so will answer a lot of queations.
