Now that is a new one.
How far are you backing in?

Again, I don't know why you're backing it in that far.
Just asking.

We have steep ramps out here in the west I guess although the Escanaba harbor marina ramp is pretty steep too.

I have to back the trailer in far enough to get the boat all the way to bow eye. I can't winch a 4,000 lb boat 15 feet.

Having the top of the fenders just breaking the water line seems to be best for power loading.

I need to go just a shy bit deeper that tha to hand load when flying solo or when power loading is illegal.

Trust me, it's not a lack of experience although I am not the best at it.

I can't be the only one experiencing this.

if it's the tires causing the trailer to float, then when you unload the boat the trailer will pop up, correct?

When I back the rig in far enough to make the boat float enough to get it off the trailer, the trailer is hugging the bottom of the boat.

So yes sort of...

I've been doing fine so far, but if we go into another severe draught or I end up with unprotected docks in a cross wind, I'm going to see my trailer going sideways.

Eric,
You could try an experiment.

Take come lead bars along on your next outing.

When you have the trailer backed into the water with the boat off of the trailer, wade into the water and start putting lead bars on your trailer.

See how much weight is required to sink your trailer.

If it is not much weight, you might just add that much weight to your trailer to keep it submerged when loading and unloading.

You're not alone, found a thread on iboats about the same problem http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=422699

I'm thinking along the same lines as REW, you may not have to add all that much weight to overcome the bouyancy of the tires/frame/fenders.

Here is there reply:

Eric -
Can you give me the trailer VIN number on the trailer in question. I have never had this come up before.

Thanks,

I ordered parts for it from Terry earlier this year I think.

Perchjerker, I just haven't had a chance to call them so it's okay dude. Plus I figured this was a an easy fix and someone would know about and I wouldn't have to bother Marine Master. I also like to add information to searchable databases such as this one. That way in the future, someone can google search "floating trailer" and they'll see instant results.

REW, here is my trailer information:

2009 Lund Boat Trailer
Marine Master
VIN: 5JUBT20139T042178
ST215/75R14 tire size
