I really don't pay that much attention to MPG's because it can vary so greatly depending on driving conditions.

Since getting the new truck, I've been curious to see what kind of mileage I get while cruising at highway/interstate speeds.....knowing full well that stop-and-go driving will completely tank that number.

i have had F150 with both motors- a few of them to be honest. the 5.0 with 3.73 gears is a beast. it will pull anything it needs to and get better mpg than any of my EB will at same load weight and speed. I went back to the EB for my current truck after I had issues with my last EB. 22k miles so far and not missing a beat. I am interested in the new combination of a EB and a 10 sp.

Contrary to what a lot of people say 'if you are going to tow over xxxxlbs get an EB. The 5.0 will tow a lot of weight. it may be half second slower 0-60 than the EB but it will do it. Remember, these trucks have twice the power of the trucks we drove 20 years ago. And we all towed a lot of weight back the to.

Either engine will do you well. Just make sure it is equipped properly to do so and enjoy it. The F150's have the best set up interior and are great vehicles.

Any questions let me know. I will be honest.

Just bought a 2017 Expedition 4x4 with the 3.5 ecoboost. Only have a couple of hundred freeway miles on it but so far running 65-70 the average mpg is 21. Better than the 2013 Tundra it replaced. Not as quick as the Tundra but faster than I thought it would be. No complaints.

my neighbor has a expedition with the EB. He likes it a lot. I think the EB motor is a nice fit for them.

Can anyone report on the latest version of the ecoboost? The one with 375 hp and 470 fps of torque?

It is not worth the $$$ upgrade.

Sucks more fuel when towing and even empty many don't get great mpg.

My 5.0 gets 15.2L/100km towing my boat. My friends eco gets 20.1L/100km towing the same boat. The 5.0 has enough get up and go and does perfectly fine.

They are bumping the 5.0 up in power again for 2018 it looks like. Very good motor.

In the USA on a XLT 4WD the V8 costs roughly $1,600-1,700 while the Ecoboost V6 and required 10 speed transmission runs roughly $2,500.

$800 jump for 83 pounds of torque and a 10 speed auto isnt much money. Plus you pick up 3 miles per gallon for both city and highway EPA estimates. No doubt the V8 is less expensive to repair for the long term but it is a difficult choice. I have narrowed down my next pick up to either a F150 or Tundra double cab with 6.5 foot bed.

Will pick up a new F150 tomorrow with the 3.5 Eco boost and 10 speed, 4x4, etc. I'll report back in a month or so with a mpg update.

Default 2016 3.31 gear

I purchased a 2016 with 3.5 eco and 3.31 gear. Tows my alumacraft fully loaded and don't know its there. Towing maybe 4K. Mileage is excellent better than the toyo taco I had with 50% more HP.

vteye2, What kind of mileage are you seeing? I have a f150 with the 2.7, I see 12 to 14 MPG towing a Alumacraft competitor 175 and 22 to 25 not towing. Just wondering if the 3.5 would have gotten better mpg towing.
