Default Ford F150 5.0 or 3.5 Ecoboost

IS the ecoboost worth the extra couple of grand$$ over the 5.0??

In my opinion yes, more torque over a wider band of RPM's makes for a much more enjoyable vehicle to drive when towing.

I have a 15' 3.5 eco and I love it. My Father and I have a combined 140k on several of them with no issues.

well i pondered that same question when i bought my 2014 new F150 FX,but after seeing so many ecoboosts for sale used and talking to a couple shop formen at dealers i elected for the 5.0 and couldn't be happier, she has now clocked up 105,000 kms or about 62,000 trouble free miles.

From everything I've heard is that if you trade in trucks every couple years get the Eco Boost but if you are one that keeps a truck after the warranty is up get the 5.0. The Eco boost are fun to drive but the repairs can get expensive. Time will tell is the new ones are any better.

I have the 2017 F150 with the 2nd gen 3.5l twin turbo engine. If you want the 'sound' of the V8, get the 5.0, if you want a few extra MPG and better towing performance, get the 3.5l with 10 speed trans (also get max tow, 36 gal tank, and tow mirrors....lol)

If you have any specific questions about the 3.5l let me know.

I would say it depends on what kind of load you have. If you are only pulling under 4000#'s, I would probably go with the 5.0. More than that, the turbo.

I have the eco and love it. My brother has the 5.0 and he really likes it.

I've had a couple of 5.0's and now have a '15 Eco Boost. I don't know about the durability but it pulls great, it's fun to drive and if I keep it below 70 the gas mileage is pretty darn good for a full size 4 door truck. I have the 6 1/2 foot box and I wouldn't get anything else, but it does take some room to turn it around. Very happy with the truck and the motor. I can't wait until next year, planning to get the same truck with the 10 speed tranny.

I use 87 octane and 89 when I know I'll be pulling my boat more that week.
