Default One time Permanent trailer license...Minnesota

My son-in-law just got a permanent license sticker to put on his boat trailer. Whats up with this?? His present license expires in February of "03", just like mine, and I haven't heard anything like this. Does anyone know anything about this?

TBO, I got a one time tab for my trailer this summer for I think 29 bucks, and about a month ago, I got a sticker in the mail, that is to be put on the trailer. There was no charge for this sticker. The state must have decided not to use the tab on the license plate, this one goes on the trailer by the hitch. I wish they would do that for the boats, too. One less thing for an aging memory to keep track of!

Ontario is the same. 20 bucks lifetime tag. Probably the best deal going from our government.

Did you get it when you were renewing you tabs? Did you have to get a special application?

I got the tab for the plate when I renewed , then this other tab came in the mail maybe a month ago, and it goes on the frame in the hitch area. I renewed this last spring, had the option of buying the one time tag then, or in a year, (I think)

The state is eventually going to these lifetime tabs on all non comercial trailers. The tabs cost around $30 and are good until you sell the trailer then the buyer has to renew in there name. The directions on the tabs say to take your license plate off and put the sticker on or near the tounge.
If you have not recieved yours yet they will inform you when you go to renew your trailer tabs next time.

I think it is a pretty good idea??

This new license fee only applies to small trailers.Just talked to the DMV to renew my tabs and my 620 trailer does'nt get the lifetime deal. If you have the small plates then you get the 30.00 one time fee.

There is a weight restriction for the lifetime stickers.

A friend has a large cruiser and he was told that his trailer was to large/heavy and wasn't included in the lifetime sticker program.

According to what I was told this morning snowmobile trailers would be able to get the lifetime tab. If they are the smaller ones ,6 place tandems may not.
