I,m planning a walleye trip to Leech Lake, MN. the last two weeks in Sept and would like to here from anyone on fishing this lake at that time of the year. Usually I fish Northern and Upper Michigan that time a year but the wife and I got three weeks in a row off at the same time and decided to do a little traveling. Any information will be greatly appreciated. (16ft Mirrocraft, 5th wheel, generally fish walleyes 40 to 60 ft in the summer)

If you are going to fish leach lake you should be concentrating on the depth you are fishing at. you should try fishing in depths of 4 to 14 feet depths. Fishing the wind blown shorelines or off shore rock piles. late afternoon until dark fish the points. Jig and minnow.

Thanks bear;
Been doing a lot of research since that Aug 17 posting and that seems to be the majority of opinions. |

I will be up there at that time also. Go every year at the end of September. I concur with the previous posting. The windier the better and fish shallow. Use 1/8 oz. fireball jigs and light line. Dark green, chartreuse, patriot, parrot, and fire-tiger are the best colors. I fish the north side of the lake and the shore/points that are getting the wind. The names you will hear that are good are : Big and little hardwood, pine, the two ducks, ottertail, star, goose Island , stony and the meadows. Good luck!
