Hamlin Lake Info

Anyone have any info on fishing Hamlin Lake (near Ludington MI) in september?? This will be trip #2 and I did not not have much luck previously. Would like to hook-up with some walleye and smallies.Is there a big pike population also?? Caught a few so thats why I am wondering. One more thing...I heard there is some salmon fishing in the fall where the Hamlin meets Lake Michigan. Any info on that??? Thanks!!!! -F

Hamlin Lake is separated from lake michigan by a short strech of the Sauble River. There is a dam so no salmonids get into Hamlin.
As far as the fall smallies and Walleyes go, I've had good luck jigging along the dunes on the north west side of the Lower Lake. Nice big smalies hug the bottom in this area. High winds over the dunes off lake MI, can be a real *****, however.
The pike seem to hit real good off the outlet going from the lower lake into the river. I found out the hard way about that one by trolling crawler harneses across there and loosing everything.:o
I eventually started to use Fireline on my harnesses to catch anything in there.:D
There is also a healthy pop. of Gar in that lake so they also pose a threat to your rigs.
Also, the sheepshead in there are quite something, I once caught one that weighed 16lb's
I thought I had on a whale.
