I think that part of the reason for the decline in ice fishermen is the increase in the number of people who fish the open water in boats all winter long. I live in Lake City and am lucky if I chase eyes on the ice a couple times a season, but I am out in my boat a few times a week. Another reason is that when the nuke plant went into full swing the feeling was that the warmer water that is discharged would make for unsafe ice, this may be true, it may be not, I do know that not as many people drive on the ice as they used to so it makes mobility more dificult. I think that some great walleye fishing is out there with fewer people takeing advantage of it.
