A guy at work brought in the Jan. 12th issue of a local paper called "The Laker". This covers the western end of Lake Minnetonka. On the front page is a picture of a guy with a 49 inch, 30 lb. northern caught on Jan. 5 around noon. He caught it on a fathead in 15 feet of water on 8# test line. He said he was glad he had a 10 inch hole.
If I can get this scanned, I'll post it. How do I go about posting a scanned image? Formerly John in MN |

Wow! What a northern.
Wish I could help with the scanning question, but I don't know how to do that. I am much more comfortable with a rod and reel than computers and scanners and firewalls and giga-bites and all that stuff. Perhaps someone else can help with the scanning thing. Thanks for the pike information. Best Fishes, Bob Jensen |

It looks like this is the fish. The picture in the link you posted is much better and you can clearly see the muskie coloration. The picture in the paper was taken in a bait shop and the flash washed out the side of the fish.
I agree there are a lot of fish like this in Minnetonka. Last summer while fishing sunfish with my kids, I saw one I estimated at 50 inches. It looked like the proverbial log floating by. It was only 10 feet from the boat and it didn't even spook. About 10 minutes later I saw it going back the other way. Sorry if I got anybody too excited? I'll still try and post the picture if I can figure it out. Formerly John in MN |
