Default Fishing the Iowa Great Lakes

With all the high winds and cool temperatures, fishing for many species has slowed down considerably. When we get some consistant warm weather, without gale winds, fishing will pick up in a hurry.
Water temperatures in most of our lakes are holding around the 50 degree mark. So the water is not as warm as one might think.
West Okoboji is producing panfish in the canals of Cresent and Millers Bay. Small fire-fly jigs tipped with a micro-crawler or dew worm are hot. Largemouth Bass fisherman are finding good numbers of bass in the canals.
Silver Lake at Lake Park, and Elk Lake are producing walleyes on Power Grubs or minnows.
Big Spirit grade area has an excellent big bullhead bite and also bluegill and crappie. Also Templars lagoon area is producing panfish and bullheads.
East Okoboji is producing bullheads north of Highway 71 bridge. The walkway between East and West Lake is producing nice bluegill, plus some crappie and perch. Walleye and northern pike season opens May 4th.
Keep a tight line and may your aim be straight.
