Default $3.20 for gas in Minneapolis and heading higher!!

Now that the driving season is here and the fishing opener this weekend, the price of gas has topped $3 per gallon. That is for regular.

Premium - which is required for some marine motors is now at $3.35 at some stations.

Lets all kick back and catch lots of fish.
Have a great summer.

Take care

Roger,

That 454 of yours needs a seasonal parking spot....:stirthepot:

$2.99 - $3.09 up $.10 a gallon today in western MN. When was the last time you heard of a new refinery being built in the USA? More demand less supply drives up the price. Not to mention more than a little good old price gouging from the refineries to the retailers.

Well, Vike, you might be right. But then again, maybe not.

On CNBC (or as we call it in our household "the money channel") which I watch fairly regularly, they were saying 2 months ago that in the U.S. a major refinery was down for refitting, one was down for major repair, one had been down for an extended period while the owner corporation was deciding what to do with it, etc. That was late February, early March. A barrel of oil was $59.00 or so. Gas was 1.949 a gallon here in Milwaukee.

A little over a week ago I was listening to CNBC and they said all the refineries were up and operating. Oil was up a little over 3 dollars (5 percent) at $62. Gas was 3.099. Yesterday it was 3.299 here in Milwaukee.

Let me see -- I remember $400 million being given as a GIFT to the retiring head of Exxon-Mobil a year ago. This was NOT part of his pension plan nor any incentive program. It was a GIFT!! I see record profits in the oil industry for the past 3 years -- CNBC again. Amazing money flow for a helpless industry that can't get enough product to the consumer because those nasty EPA regs won't let it build refineries.

I ain't buying the "lack of refineries" as a reason anymore. Not when all the refineries are now back on line (CNBC again) and the price of gas still goes up by 75% even though the price of a barrel of oil only went up 5%. It is lack of competition which has happened because of the oil company mergers. They are stiffing us "because they can". I don't buy gas from Exxon-Mobil unless I have to, and I NEVER buy it from Citgo and Chavez.

I have cut back on my driving and drive a station wagon instead of my truck. I bought it 3 years ago when gas prices started going up. I use my truck only to pull my boat or on hunting trips. And, I drive a lot less. In about 3 years when the technology is more mature, I am going to own a hybrid when I trade in my station wagon.

The way things sit now, I can't stop those companies from screwing me, but I sure can reduce my use of their product and limit how much screwing I take. I probably spend about the same amount of money on gas as I did when the price was $1.75 a gallon. I fill my 15 gallon tank on my wagon about every 2 weeks. I filled my 25 gallon tank on my truck about once a week up until I bought the wagon. So, I have gone from 50 gallons in my truck every 2 weeks to 15 gallons in my wagon every 2 weeks.

They will still get me when I fish -- which is about 20 to 25 days a year. But, I run my 150 Opti at about 3500 RPM where the "sweet spot" for gas consumption is instead of at the 4500 RPM as I used to.

Those oil companies can stick their gas where the sun don't shine. I have had enough.
