Default best time of day

I am an early riser and I love to be the first one on the lake in the morning . But now since the nights are colder and so is the water temp would I have better luck fishing the evening rather than the morning ? This is my first time fall musky fishing I'm normally perched in a tree with my archery gear ,so this is all new to me . THE FERD

It depends on the lake. Normally in colder water situations the afternoon is better because the water is normally at it's warmest. There are exceptions however. Lakes with heavy summer boat traffic seem to always be better morning lakes even in the late fall. Fish seem to stay conditioned to the traffic and I catch the majority of my fish on these lakes before 10am.

I have had my best luck at sun down, the only disadvantage at this time is the fact that there is still boat traffic on most lakes especially in the heart of the summer.

I think the best time of day is usually associated with many variables. My observations are that boat traffic, moon rise and set times, weather conditions, and baitfish movement all play a big part. On one lake I fish often, the best fishing is almost always best in the early morning or right at or near sunset. And on another lake, the best time is almost always between 9:00 am and noon. Why? I don't know for sure, but thats when the fish seem to be the most active.

But, in the end, I go fishing when I can and sometimes thats early, sometimes thats late, and sometimes thats in the middle of the afternoon. The way I figure it, a person never catches a fish on a dry line and one always has a chance even if there is only a little time to fish. And its always fun to try.:)

Good fishing all.
