Would like your opinions as to your experience with the Abu Garcia 7000 Big Game reels for a trolling reel. A gentleman at a local tackle store told me the Big Game series are built heavier internally than the regular C3 7000 series. Which would you recommend for a musky trolling reel?
Thanks for your opinions, Lonnie |

I'm not sure but you may want to take a good look at the 7000 big game series. I have a 7500 big game for salt water and it doesn't have a level wind. I've never fought a muskie on a reel without a level wind but I think having top worry about guiding the line on the reel while fighting the fish may lead to problems. Don't get me wrong I think the big game series is great for long casting and fighting big fish but may not be ideal for trolling. Hope this helps.

LONNIE- THE 7000 BIG GAMES I HAVE ARE LEVEL WIND MODELS BUT ARE NO MATCH FOR THE C3 AS FAR AS A MUSKY TROLLING REEL.
THE C3s ADVANTAGE IS ITS WINCH-LIKE LOWER GEAR RATIO. THE POWER COMES IN HANDY WHEN CRANKING IN BIG LURES (OR FISH) AT HIGH TROLLING SPEEDS A LOWER GEAR RATIO REEL WILL ALWAYS LAST LONGER I'VE SENT 2 BGs BACK TO ABU-GARCIA WHEN THE GEARS TORCHED JUST FROM CASTING YOU'LL SAVE $50. I USE BOTH REELS. DON'T GET ME WRONG--I LIKE THE BIG GAMES!!! JUST NOT CUT OUT FOR TROLLING. |
