I came across a decent deal and I thought I'd ask you all a few questions. My neighbor has a 1992 Sea Nymph that is all tricked out for fishing. It has a 1992 75 HP Evinrude along with trolling motors (front and rear), down riggers, two fish finders (one is an X-85). The boat is 19.5 feet long. Do any of you have any experience with this boat?? Are they "known" for anything...like leaking, falling apart, or are they known as good boats?? This guys owes me money and I might take the boat as part of his payment (I think it's probably worth about 5-6,000 bucks). What do you all think?? I don't have any experiences with Sea Nymph's...only Lunds and Crestliners. Thanks in advance. Boat Shoppin' |

I have a Sea Nymph Sidewinder (16'9", deep V) that I bought new in 92. Haven't had any problems with it at all. Very durable and comfortable to fish out of.

I bought a '94 Sea Nymph FM161 16.5' deep v w/a 5ohp evenrude 50lb minn kota on the bow, lowrance x-55,GPS,marine radio about 6 months ago for 5K very good condition with the exeption of a few rivets leaking(I found that after I bought it,we all learn from mistakes on our first boat won't make that one again)I went through alot of research to find someone qualified to do the rivet replacment and did all the grunt work myself( removing floor boards etc.)the repair wasn't that expensive, but in talking with alot of dealers and boat repair guys I've found that sea nymphs are pretty well made, not a lund or a crestliner, but well made. I've also looked at newer lowe sea nymphs and it looks as though the quality has gone down, prior to a couple of years ago sea nymphs were made by OMC and since they went T***up lowe took them over. Just a word of cation put the boat in the water or put water in the boat and CHECK for leaks before you buy, it can be difficult with full flooring in place but you need to do it before you spend your money. Even with me doing all the grunt labor my repair was $600 for all the rivets 12(a couple were actually leaking the others just had small seeps that would eventually become leaks) in all to be replaced w/ a guarante of no further leaks.

The boat I own is very similar to the one your looking at but a little older and to this day I have yet to have one problem with it. I think the biggest thing isnt the brand its how the person used it and took care of it.
Just my opinion JIm |

Your much better off, taking the boat to a launch and throwing it in the water and taking a ride, accelerate, and slow down. Do so for about 20min. to a ½ hr.. Pull the boat out and pull the plug while the boat is on the ramp out of the water. That should let you know how much it is leaking. While your out, make a few wave pools w/. decent waves in them and hit them hard but not to hard w/. the hull, do so a few times, it simulates rough water. If you have anymore questions, anyone, post ur Email and ill mail you back as soon as i get a chance. Take Care everyone.

Ever since Lowe took over Sea Nymph, the quality has gone way down. I have had friends who have try'd Lowe's Sea Nymph V's. It doesnt take much to Crack a hull, chip the paint, or loos'n or even knock out a Rivet. If you take care of a Sea Nymph, it will last for a very long time, people come up to me all the time, when I tell them the boats a 95, they are amazed. Just take care of it, and ENJOY.
