Hello,
The "men" in my family are looking at taking a 3-4 day trip and were wondering what lakes/resorts we should consider within 20 minutes or so of Mille Lacs. We love fishing Mille Lacs and will probably trailor over for a day, however we would like to fish a smaller body of water this time. We fish mainly for bass, pike, muskie and walleye. Just wanted to know which of these lakes has a good population of muskie and maybe big pike. I know Mille Lacs is the obvious choice, however its not in the cards this trip. Thanks, NC ncavanaugh992@msn.com |

The only lake that I know of that's near by that has muskies in it is Cedar Lake. Not sure how far away it is, as I've never been there. But it's to the north of Mille Lacs. Otherwise you're looking at a 45 minute drive to the next closest musky lake. If you'd like to just go after pike, bass or walleyes, then there are lots of other choices. Many other smaller lakes around Mille Lacs.

Thanks for the input. Muskies are not a must, however we would love to have the opportunity. What lake is 45 minutes away anyway?
Thanks again, NC |

Lake Alexander and Shamineau are both good musky lakes that are about 20 to 25 miles west of Brainerd. They don't have the trophy potential like Mille Lacs, but they have decent numbers.

Cedar is about 20 minutes fron the NW corner of Millacs, very clear, probably noted more for Walleyes than Muskies but most of the game fish are present. Farm Island in the same area has a pretty good Bass and Pike population if you are looking for action, there are a few small resorts on it.
