Hello all,
I just started fishing for muskie seriously last year. I fish the Swatara Creek in Middletown, PA. It's not a very big creek but it is polluted with muskie. The stretch of water that I fish most is on average between 4 and 6 ft. deep. There isnt much in the way of structure of on the floor of the creek in the area I fish. It's mostly sandy or gravels with some small submerged weedbeds. Also there are a few sandbars or rock shelves that run diagonal across the width of the creek. There are a few bridges crossing the creek with logjams gathered in front of the bridge columns on the upstream side. There are also quite a few logjams and fallen trees along the banks pretty much the length of the creek. The current is pretty calm and consistent through the whole length of the area I fish. I cant any farther above the area I fish as the water gets way to shallow to run my boat through and I can't get below in the boat either as there is a #### and the creek is a completely different waterway below the #### anyway. So I' limited to an area probably 3/4 of a mile long maybe a mile. I know there are tons of muskie in there as I've caught a few and some of the older guys that have fished there for years are always catching them. But the times I've caught muskie were pretty much luck as I didnt apply any real knowledge or strategy. I just tied on a big bait and hoped for the best. So I guess I'm asking what I can do to better my chances of catching muskie in this type of waterway. By the way the 2 muskie I caught were on a Blue Fox Vibramax #5, gold spinner and a 1/4 ounce chartreuse spinnerbait. Any and all help/advice will be greatly appreciated and put to use. Thanks.
