If you do a search, you will find lots of opinions on reels.
For my money, I use Garcias. Tom B |

Hi .
Shimano bantam 50. Its the first reel I bought and its still the best one I have got. I have got many garcias and have had trouble with all of them in one way or another. Good reels but not as good as my shinano 50 . I throw all my heavy baits with the bantom wood baits and big eagletails and lighter baits with the garcias.bucktail and cranks. just my opinion . good luck |

I fish 200 days per year. Spend 4 months in Canada and fish muskies most of the time. I have 6 of the Pflueger Trion 66 reels and used them extensively. For $89.95 they are the best reel for the money I have found. I have not had any problems with them in 4 years. Here is a link to Cabelas for the reels.

As a part time employee of a well known foremost outfitter in the fishing dept. I see a lot of reels. One I picked up for myself is the Okuma Induron ID 400. Haven't had it muskie fishing yet but used it several times this spring for stripers in Raritan Bay NJ and it performed great. Caught plenty of fish 10 - 20 lbs. It is a smooth well built 8 ball bearing reel that reminds me of a calcutta for about half the price. I also use a Penn 965 in the salt a lot and I have to say I am just as pleased with the Okuma, I can't comment on the long term durability as it is the first year for it. My Penn 965 has seen hard use for 5 seasons and is still like new (proper care given to reel).
