I will be heading up to the 'Big Chip' then second weekend in May for the Treeland Walleye Challenge. I have participated for the last 3 years. We do catch walleyes, but never our limit of 3 per day. Just a few here and there. We have been fishing the sunken bogs, floating bogs, Moss Creek, Crane Creek and many other areas. I have been reading that the walleyes should be in weed bays and where there is wood...is this true?
During the tourney, we can't fish at night. 8 pm is the latest. We can fish from 6-10 am and 4-8 pm. Are there any suggestions on how to catch the limit of 3 fish per day? We are not looking for trophy fish, just quantity. Live bait, crankbaits, shallows, deep, drifting or anchor? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. Dman142 |

Dman, I have very little time on the Chip. However, I had friends that used to go up every year and camp out (in mid-May). They said they fished strictly the river channel ... trolling with live bait ... and they used to catch a lot of fish (limiting out each day). I cannot ask them for more input because they are 5-years retired now and I don't see them anymore. My loss. They stopped going about the time they retired, but had been doing this for about 20 years.
I hope this helps. A day spent fishing does not count against one's alloted life span |

The time is coming a weekend after the opener. Are there any more people out there that can offer any advice for the Flowage?
If I don't reply for awhile, don't worry, I'm going to Texas this week. Dman |
