I just took a close look at my reef runners and found out that on the hooks the barbs are on the out side of the bend. Is this the way they are made or are mine made wrong ? I's just on the reef runners. Jim

All the old RR's have the out-barb hooks. The new ones have a different hook now, with a regular "in-barb". It's called a Kale (not sure of sp?) hook (pronounced K-Lee).
The old ones worked just fine, but I do feel the newer hooks Scott is using are just a weeeee bit better for hanging on to fish. Both are good hooks, and there is no reason to swap out the old ones for new ones. I have both in my boxes. Just my opinion... Juls |

Jim,
The hooks you referr to are VMC Outbarbs. Scott loved the hooks, as did most of the fishermen using it. ( be careful, those are some sharp hooks ) The new lures have a different (and also very sharp) hook because VMC was bought out by Rapala, and Rapala found ways to make things difficult for Reef Runner. I'd guess you could find guys willing to trade you for just about any hook you want, if you should want to. Good luck, and good fishing. |
