Default 2007 Hawgfest Preview

2007 Vermilion Hawgfest on tap for this weekend

Ohio Game Fishing (OGF) and the Western Basin Sportfishing Association (WBSA) are geared up to have the 2007 Vermilion Hawgfest this Saturday September 22nd brought to you by Starcraft Marine, Evinrude E TEC, WKYC TV-3 and Sharpnack II Chevrolet. This is the fourth annual event and will have a sell out field of 104 boats that were all registered more then a month in advance. The City of Vermilion will be hosting the event with the weigh in happening on the river at The Red Clay restaurant and the awards ceremony being held at the Vermilion on the Lake Club (VOL).

The weekend festivities will begin on Friday evening with a captains meeting at the VOL Club. Sponsors of the Hawgfest will be present displaying their products for all in attendance to see. The WBSA and OGF will be sponsoring pizza for the captains in attendance as the rules and procedures for the event will be covered.

“We are extremely excited to see full field and expect to see a lot of big fish come to the scales on Saturday” commented OGF organizer Kim Endsley.

When the fish have all been weighed the festivities will move to the VOL in Vermilion for the dinner and awards ceremony. The dinner will be catered by Ray Sterk Catering and as in years past there is no charge all though donations are welcomed to help offset the cost. There will be raffles and door prizes of merchandise and also a raffle for one of five charter fishing trips through out the awards ceremony.

Starcraft Marine Pro Staffer Dan Gies will be using his 2008 STX 2050 as the official take off boat for the event and will also be available for test rides during the day Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM leaving from the Red Clay restaurant. Anyone interested in getting a ride in the new Starcraft tournament boat can call WBSA Tournament Director Matt Davis at 419-834-3619 to set up a time.
