does anyone know what can be used in place of these ?
there seems to be a real shortage around here
even cabelas is out of stock in the 3/4 oz size

Rebs, let me know what you're looking for. The last time I checked Dick's, Galyan's and a couple other smaller shops around me had lots of Cleos. I have jigged the 2/5 oz for years in the Bay of Quinte and I've yet to find a suitable replacement. I'm sure we could work out shipping or even delivery somewhere between Buff. and Roch.

If your looking for something that replaces that side to side flipping action when a cleo is casted and retrieved, Good Luck. Actually, a Castmaster comes pretty close when casted. Now, if you want something to replace it for lets say Ice Fishing jigging, I suggest a Do-Jigger. I'll ofetn jig with a Gold/Red cleo on one rod and a Silver/Blue do-jigger on the other. I took enough walleyes on that cleo one year, that I had to re-paint the red part.

Hi Walleye Express what weight of little cleo are you using and whats the best way of jigging it. I'm the worlds worst ice fisherman so can use all of your suggestions. Thanks.

You had to ask me that when I'm setting here in front of the PC in my underware. (More info than you needed right?)
I know its not the smallest one they make, but the next size up. If I get out in the garage today I'll pull my ice lure box and look for sure. Theres another little secret I'll devoulge to you about the cleo when I'm using it. Instead of using one big minnow or a half like I like to use with the Do-Jiggers, I hook three small minnows on it. One on each hook, hooked through the head. Now when you jig it, it pulsates and looks really alive, almost squid-like. Plus, if you get a short strike or miss one, there is usually always a minnow or two left on one of the hooks when he turns around and comes back for a second shot. Make sense? PS, the smaller minnows are usually both easier to find and less expensive to boot.

Just went out and looked at the cleo size I use. 1/3 ounce. I also would mention I replace the smalll chrome trebles they come with, with (I think) #4 mustads. About the same size that comes on Rattle Tot's. I keep them sticky sharp for those often finicky minnow suckers. Another great thing about this particular size and the small minnnow technique, is that jumbo perch are not afraid to take a bite as well.
