Default Ice Flies.

What kind of ice flies do you guys use and what brand. I want to expand my arsenal this year instead of the old waxworm, mousies, and maggots. I know that the fish will eat midge/caddis larvae and mayfly nymphs. I didn't have too much luck with the ice flies I've used before where I fish.

Ice flies are "winter active" midges. One kind is like a tiny jig with little legs on it. Another kind is like a tiny furry jig. They're usually tipped with some kind of bait. I know that some people who are fly fisherman tie their own ice flies. I was wondering where I can get some store bought models from. I fish in Eastern PA so we may use some different stuff here.

Juls- I'm pretty sure the Lake Erie version of the ice fly is a 3/4oz swedish pimple with a minnow on each point of the treble hook :)

That seems to be the "subtle approach" compared to some of the stuff I've seen go under the ice in that area.
