Default Night bite on the saginaw bay

Sometimes after a day of fishing on the bay we hit shore just after dark, I have seen guys just going out and heard they catch walleyes at night. Has anybody (Capt.Dan) done much fishing after dark out there? One time I was out there and they came in just before dark and I caught fish until about 8:30 Stayed until about 10 without another hit I was by myself ( not to bright I was young and dum) and the bay boogey man was on my tail all the way to shore!

Ahh yes, the boogey man on ice...ran into him a few times myself. I hate it when he growls so loud it sounds like cracking ice!!! Scares the piddle out a me! Yep, makes me walk faster and faster all the while asking myself if that last fish was worth all this...of course it was ;) How come he is never there when you go out early in the morning before sun up?

Jim.
I have on three occassions stayesd out all night on the Bay and fished. And will most generally stay out (if its nice) for about an hour after dark on a regular basis. To say the effort really paid off, would be stretching it a bit.

My brother-in-laws used to pitch a huge wall tent out from Callahan Rd., some 4 miles every winter (for about 3 years in a row) and throw what they called "The Bobbing for Budweiser Walleye Spectacular". These are the guys you'll see on our Olympic drinking team if we ever get one. They still throw "The Benevilant, Labradour Retriever, Bloody Mary, Skeet Shoot" every summer though. They roast a pig, have shooting competitions and raffel off some expensive shotguns. I, myself won my Browning Gold Hunter 2 years ago with $20.00 worth of tickets. But I regress.

This big wall tent had a huge wood burning stove set up in the middle of it, with the smokestack going out the top. And I'm guessing 35 to 40 holes cut along the inside edge of the wall tent. I swore we were all going to break through from the weight of the men, wood, stove and kegs of beer they hauled out. Not being a professional beer drinker like my X-wifes brothers, I fished and kept things in perspective with just a few cups of suds. Makeing a long story shorter, we had a flurry of walleye fishing action at around 9:00pm and then again around 1:00am early the next morning. With only about 2 or 3 being caught between those times. We ended up with 11 walleyes between a lot of guys fishing before dark, to the few still standing after dark into the night. And the other times I fished all night, produced about the same results, given the differnt equation of guys/holes/time. Would I do it again? Maybe. Is it worth doing it fish wise? I'd say no. I think your still better off and safer targeting the prime daylight hours.

Dan sounds like a wonderfull time. I wonder how the fishing would be on the full moon though if it was a clear night and the moon wasn't obscured? I usally do good steelheading at the tippy when I have those conditions I might try it once this year if I can hook up with another brave soul.

Keep me in mind if those conditions come together and we have good ice by then. Big jug of coffee, possibly some good tunes, I might be into it. Might even talk my crazy bud into it as well. There's pleanty of room in the old Otter Skin. Darn thing is as big as a house.
