I'm new to walleye fishing and am going out to try to jig and am going to use Swedish Pimples and Gitzit Little Tough Guys. Do you think these are good? Any ideas (limited to getting to Walmarts as our bait shop closed and nothing around anymore ( another Wall Mart casuality)

Sweedish Pimples are great jigging lures for walleyes. My buddy wont use anything else but a Pearl Pimple. I know Wallmart will also have a few Do-Jiggers. These are also made by the same people who make the pimples. My favorite is the Silver/Blue or Sivler/Red Prism Tape model. The medium sized in both lures seems to attract more strikes and wont scare away a big perch either. I hook a big Blue shiner through the center of the head and pinch him in half. |

I use the Swedish Pimples for walleye through the ice all the time. Definatley need to tip with a minnow head, though. I've tried it without one and haven't gotten bitten on it. They'll come up and look at it and then swim away. Put a minnow head on, drop it back down and they almost always take it.

The pearl Swedish Pimple tipped with a piece of beef, or better yet, a perch eye is my number one choice for walleyes through the ice. Number two would be the tiny, number six, five of diamonds Len Thompson.

Great to know! Do you guys thing adding the bait is a visual thing or a scent thing? As some here have said that those commerical spray, dip scents work better in winter,... what if a tiny sponge on the hook and dipped in some of these were tried? Anyone try it? I'm thing perhaps a cloud of scent might trgger a strike response?

Third on the Pearl Pimple. My favorite.
Often times I don't tip them at all. I really do think that the action is what it's all about. But I do tip, mostly because what can it hurt? Seems like if they're on scent or taste you've just covered that base as well. CYA. Better to have and not need than to need and not have! Matt Davis

Rosen, I use Swedish Pimples all the time. I always tip with spikes, mousies or fatheads. One of the best things about them is that even a small perch will take a large pimple. They can keep the action hot even if the 'eyes aren't biting. My favorite is the silver with green prism tape.

Ummm good information you guys,..another question, do you generally use those little red or yellow tabs that they supply? Think they make any difference?

Hmmm, good question. Do I use them ? Yes. Do they make a difference? I don't know. I think they all come with the red one attached and I've always left it on. My reasoning is that maybe it imitates blood and attracts the fish for that reason. I mean they have red hooks nowadays so maybe I was ahead in my thinking. Nah.

Those little red/yellow plastic flutter/attractor tabs come on the Do-Jiigers as well. I generally give them the toss. They seen to hinder the free flowing/moving action between the O-Ring and where the treble is connected. And can sometimes jam/wedge the hook when jigging with any vigor. In my opinion anyway. |
