I’m looking at buying a new GPS for my boat and am really considering ether the Garmin 162 or the 182. I really would appreciate if you all could weigh in on these two.
What does the 182 offer that the 162 doesn’t and is there that much difference in the two. Also what are the advantages to an external vs. internal antenna? As well which lake mapping software is the most accurate and detailed for ether of these two? Thank You, Randy Gaines |

I recently purchased the 182C and so far I love what it does. The color is well worth the money. I chose it over the 162 for the simple fact that I am not a computer guru and wanted to beable to just plug in a chip and not have to worry about downloading anything off a computer. The Lake Michigan/Winnebago Bluechart seems very detailed also. And after reading the many posts on this website and talking with the Garmin folks decided on the internal antenna so it would be somewhat mobile and easier to install. Huge step up from the Garmin 12 and can't wait for open water. I probably have 15 to 20 hours of simulator time and driving around practicing. Took a couple of hours to transfer my waypoints from the other unit. Now I am just debating on getting the new Hotspots chip for Wisconsin.

Tried to paste in the comp chart but it doesn't work.
http://www.garmin.com/marine/compare.jsp Got it, this link works. I have the 162 and love it. The 182 would come in handy if I fished where there was more water, but I don't. Check the comp chart and you can see what you are getting for the extra bucks. Good luck, |

Hey Jamie, I'll have to park next to you & swap my 182 for yours, I think yours knows where there is more fish. LOL, Good Luck Pat Cavins

Thanks folks, looks like the 182 will be the one I buy.
