Thanks for your .02 worth Chuckles. But as you say not all of these fish caught are female. I know this.I also know that, when this same fish are pulled out of the scour hole they come up with stomaches hanging out of there mouths.Or being badly injured by being foul hooked. These fish end up being eagle food.I think this is a waste of our natural resource. That same 12 in. cigar could help restock our waters for years to come. They are only a 12 in. cigar for a short time.I'm all for putting size limits on saugers, and slot size for walleyes.I would just like to see the populations back up to were they were in the past.Just my .02 worth

well,
I'm not quite sure if I was supposed to take that as a compliment for supporting a portion of your view, or if you actually think I attempted to read and summarise your posts? Anyhow, my intention was to let you know that not all fishermen see non-native, introduced species such as the rainbow (steelhead) trout as "honorable".

That status is in the eye of the beholder. Sure they are fun to catch, but so are creek chubs and 8" smallmouth.
I won't go on about my feelings towards the hoards of seasonal fishermen targeting the "honerable" trout on Lake Erie's Tribs. In my eyes a fish is a fish, it's level of sport is basicaly irelivant. In my personal ranking of worth I do not consider a non-native species superior to a "lesser" native animal. So, your childhood composting of Sucker is in my eyes the same as composting a trout, leagaly using a legaly taken fish. It may not be directly consuming the fish, but It is using it to produce some plump ripe tomatoes. Did early farmers waste fish by using them fertilize their crops?

Ok, back to my other point. (and stiring the pot a bit)

You told ESOXLUCIUS,
"I would only graciously suggest that you forgo the trouble of giving the honorable steelhead a dirt burial and simply let it go for somebody who does indeed appreciate it, to harvest and use it."

This statment is completly at odds with the rest of my post. Correct me if I took it wrong, But I think you were giving me a condesending jab and trying to take the credit for my view as your own.

If you didn't mean to come off this way, I apologise to you for taking it wrong, and for reading too much betwene the lines.

Go catch some fish and do whatever you want with them!

cmb,Chris
