Is it possible to copy the Navionics/HotSpots chips, or is there some sort of copy protection built in?
Thanks |

It says, right on the card that comes in the package..."IMPORTANT NOTICE"....."The information on your new MMC cartridge cannot be moved, altered, backed-up, or copied. (And in bold letters...) Attempting to do so will damage the files and render your MMC cartridge useless; your chart/map will be lost forever!"
Also says, "DO NOT FORMAT YOUR MMC!", "DO NOT INSTALL YOUR MMC INTO A PC OR MMC READER!", "DO NOT USE TO UPDATE YOUR PLOTTER SOFTWARE!", and "DO NOT USE YOUR MMC FOR ANY OTHER PURPOSE!" The card says that if you have any questions to contact them at 1-800-848-5896 or email them at sales@navionics.com. Juls |

what about using a good copy program
I know what navionics says about it, but it lawful to make a back up copy of any program you buy what if you lost it or it was stolen, then you are just out of luck ? i feel you should be able to make a back up copy this is exactly why I was hoping the lake master would up date their program for lowrance units it goes on your computer and you put the info on a mmc what if you loaded it into your lowrance unit and then took the navionics card out and used the save feature on the unit to save the info to another mmc ? where there is a will there is a way just ask any hacker this is why I like lake master I can study the map on my computer and set way points that I want to go to and then put them on a mmc rebs

I agree on the 'where there is a will, there is a way'... But I'm pretty good on a computer, and I'll be darned if I could find a way to copy it. I looked everywhere. It appears there is not enough valuable media on this type of storage device to warrant the real geeks in writing a program to copy them.

I would have to agree with that, if a real computer geek wanted to do it im sure he could fine a way. |
