[b] Hey gang.
Just found out that the Sun experienced a huge geomagnetic storm Tuesday. This storm will reach earth today and it's effects will last for 2 weeks. One of the effects is interrupting Radio and Satellite transponders signals (including GPS signals) from doing their jobs. Mostly creating interruptions in these signals and interfering with the operation of these units. I'd hate to be 12 miles out on Erie, have to run in fast for any reason, and have my GPS go South on me. Heres the link to the NOAA news about it... And No...I'm not starting any (the sky is falling stuff) just found it interesting.. Plus, I'll be there even if the sky does fall..:D. http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2003/s2104.htm |

Don't worry Cuz, you won't have to be out 12 miles to get the fish. Unless there is fog, which I highly doubt, you will be able to see land at all times.
The smoke stacks are located at the mouth of the Huron River, and you can see them for miles. That's where you head to get home. ;-) Juls |

Capt. Dan,
If you launch out of Huron, you should be OK. The smoke stack at the mouth of the Huron River is usually visable for 10+ miles (assuming a fairly clear day). Of course, if it's dark out, all bets are off! Tim Edit: Obviously, Juls is a faster typist than me!;-) |

Comon now, Dan.
You of all people know not to depend solely on your GPS for navigation. You cant fool me. Just hope the sunspots dont mess with the compass as well. ;-) |

And I guess those stacks at Huron are like the ones at the mouth of the Saginaw River that we often depend on for visual navigation on the Bay. Be my luck though, we get onto some real monsters and the GPS starts blinking on and off keeping us from going directly back over them. |

I see. That makes more sense.
I am bring along my secret weapon in case the gps goes down and we are on fish. If you see a seagull just floating around by itself not doing anything, its not a seagull. Its my seagull decoy marker bouy. ;-) |

I threw it out, trolled down-wind for a 1/2 mile, trolled back to what I thought was the marker and it flew away. Ended up chasing one seagull after the other all day and never did re-locate my dummy. This was before my GPS days..:D |

[b]Bounty. Don't call your favorite brother-in-law with that great GPS deal yet. :D Make sure it's not the sun spots before you start buying new gear. |
