Default heater in a boat ?

fella's this year I am not planning on quiting until the ice flows stop me in the river. With this in mind Im thinking that maybe there is some type of heater I could use in the boat to warm my hands and such. Does anyone use anything like this ? Is it safe ?

fatboy, i use a mr buddy heater and it serves the purpose and than some, you can warm your hands and feet and than heat up your leftover meatball hoagies just set it on top of the heater, overall its been a good heater and on the windy days it seems it dosn,t blow out near as much as some other heaters i have tried.

I use a Mr Heater style sunflower heater.

You definately need to fasten it down or place it somewhere that it will not tip but they work very well and when your running 50 mph the heater goes out anyway.

I also use the sunflowers for extreme cold hunting and in the fish house plus I start 2 up in the garage and it gets comfortable in there also so I get many uses for them.

Even with a gaurd you will want to stay away from them with any synthetics because they will melt them in a heartbeat. I usually pull a seat and bugee cord it against the side and warm my hands when using live minnows and they get wet.

Looks like we've both got the same plan for this year!! Late!!!! The heater idea scares me. Me and the old lady cleared out all those stick-on heat pads last year in the spring. We picked them up for something like 5 for $1 compared to $2 each during the winter. One in each shoe, one on the back(stops the chills), and one in each glove, and you're toasty as can be.

BTW........ are you the same "fatboy" originally from Lincoln Park? That launches at Wyandotte? There's so many of you downriver that it's hard to know which "fatboy" is which!

pitts, i have the sunflower one your talking about but the mr buddy i use is the one that looks like a small suit-case it has the tip over feature which i like and you can lay your gloves or towels on the top to dry, you do have to watch them if you leave to long they will burn, all in all its a good heater that blows out a lot less than some others i have tried.

Ya know I'd be REALLY careful here,..with an insulated suit you won't feel the heat if you get any part of you too close esp with something unguarded like a sunflower. Some synthetics are pretty flamable too.... a few years ago we had young woman in good athletic shape die because her T-shirt caught on fire,..thats right a T-t shirt! Just a few weeks ago an older gent died when an ash from his cigar lite up his fleece top. I don't know much about either case other than this is what was reported in the newspapers. Some years ago I saw a guy at a football game turn into a ball of fire when a cigarette hit his "mascot" like snowmans suit,...granted maybe current outterwhare is made of better stuff than whatever he made this suit out of, but in a very few seconds I'm sure he didn't know what hit him. This is not even considering what on your boat could be flammable,...be sure whatever you use is super secure. And can't burn you ......or anything,..

I use a small one head heater and place it in a 6 gallon bucket.Xtra stability and protection for the heater and the heat rises up to the hands unlike a 5 gallon bucket which allows heat to escape before you enjoy it.I also use the pocket hand warmers.

Has anyone tried out the Coleman SportCat Personal Heater? It has only 1,100 BTU outputand looks as if it would work good in a boat to warm the hands. you can see one at:
