I too use a vexilar fl-8 pro pack and i wont go ice fishing without mine. It's a complete setup and even has the charger included. Also has a video to teach you how to use it. Not cheap, but very good investment for the money. www.vexilar.com

I have a $ 400.00 under water camera with 120' of cable. I used it this year when fishing for perch. You can see the perch take your meanow. It's got ifra-red so you can see in pitch dark. Visibility depends on water clarity. From the crib, in front of Cleveland. we could see downtown throgh the camera. I'd say, seing the fish would take the guess work out of it.
Good Luck!!! |

Fishcrazy... Talked to you on the radio Monday. I was in 40 fow in front of the stadium and caught some real big ones, my biggest of the year, 14 1/2 incher. How did you do at night? My antenna had an accident and is much shorter than it is supposed to be so I couldn't hear you real well from the crib.
The advantage that I see with my fl-18 is that you can cover the whole depth of the water from top to bottom where with the camera you can only see the fish at the depth of your camera. Also I understand they are unusable in dirty water where with the vex it makes no difference. I'm still getting a camera though, using both should be a lot of fun because the vex won't tell you what kind of fish you are seeing. I just can't decide which one to get! Hope to fish monday, the water should be ok by then! Give me a holler. |

You're definitley right, I use mine together with my fish finder. As far as fishing, we didn't do to hot. We did catch them but not to many keepers, I guess we got to spoiled!. The night was a bust, I haven't got one with the boat this fall. I did catch four off the rock at E 72nd, but not all in one night. My boat is out of comission so I'll be stuck on land till I get me another. So far the walleye bite has been slow and spoty off the rocks, hopefully this following week will change, I'll be there!!
Good Luck!! |

Go with the Vexilar 18. It's much easier to see in the light of day.

Have had the FL-8 for 3 years now. And I'm sure the next generation of these same units are even better. It don't take long to learn to indetify and adjust the screen settings to see the smallest of lures and virtually any species of fish. The cameras are neat and getting more compact every year, but I have seen and heard of some negative fish reactions to them at times. The cable hanging down the hole still bugs me. The Vex of course does not, and I still like at least leaving the specie of fish down there to be a surprise. I remember a 13 pound carp I jigged my butt off for, for almost 20 minutes. He kept coming in and out of the hole in 17 FOW. Of course I thought it was a walleye. Finally enticed him to bite my Do-Jigger spoon and minnow offering. Of course I was dissapointed in what it turned out to be, but in retrospect, the whole deal was cool. |
