Hey fisherman!
I spend a bunch of time fishin for the eyes and reading numerous posts here on WC and other notable sites. Is there a site strictly dedicated to perch fishing Lake Erie? I sure hope so since I'm trying to increase my knowledge of this awesome tasting fish. I live in Massillon-50 miles south of Cleveland and would like to do better by knowing deths to focus on during certain months and which areas to focus on. With 3 teenagers eating me out of house and home I need to increase the likely hood that $$$$ is well spent. I believe there is more to fishin than catching them but have you filled the tank lately!!! Thanks, Hawk |

Hawk - when you find the information that you seek, please share it with me! It seems that the perching is very random - just go here or there and you will catch them. Well, not always for me either. I work in Canton and live about 25 miles SE from Canton. Do you want to make a trip sometime? I have a small leaky boat, crappy gear, no money for gas, and hope that you bring lunch. Ha ha.
Take care, O F |

Perch fishing in Erie is best in the fall. The fish are bigger and you'll get more meat. In the spring you'll get the numbers but the meat just isn't there. Both spring and fall the perch are all along the shores just a 1-3 miles out. Once summer comes there usaully out deep and scattered till fall. Some good spots would be off E72nd, Edgewater, rocky river, avon point, lorain light house, vermillion and off marblehead light house. Out East is good two but I'm just not familar with it. You want to look for large schools of fish off the bottom. Look for small arcs, or fish mixed in with baitfish. Don't anchor till you get good marks. Sure there's times when you can get them up high but it's allot easier to just drop your bait to the bottom and wait for the tap. When the fishing is tough, just use a sinker and hook and tail hook the minnows so that there very lively down there. Allot of times the perch may only turn on in the morning or afternoon. So be prepared to fish all day if you want the meat. The fish will also be bigger the further east you go. I only like to perch fish from avon and east of there. It seems like you rarely get the big ones west of there. Maybe in early spring and late fall.
Good Luck!! Tim FRick |
