Default Transporting Fish Through Canada!

We are allowed three trout on the Arerican side. Is there any restriction about transporting them throught Canada to Michigan.

We spend a lot of time in Canada north of Sault Ste Marie. We typically bring walleye, salmon, venison, duck, frog legs, etc. all harvested in the US. We tell them what we have if asked, never an issue.

The only meat they were ever concerned with was beef last winter when your couldn't transport in either direction. They looked through our coolers a couple times.

The Lower Niagara fishing is great on the days you can fish. We have had some high winds and that muddies up Lake Erie so the river has been hot and cold. Once Lake Erie freezes then the river is stable and clear the rest of the way. so it will only get better.

I'm going to assume you mean Ontario when you say Canada. The 2005 Ontario Fishing Regulations are available on line at: http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/MNR/pubs/fi...nfo_fr2005.pdf The regulations about transporting fish are on page 10 of 14 but it is difficult to know whether such regulations apply to your scenario. I have emailed the Ontario MNR in this regard and will post any response received.

Response received from Ontario MNR this afternoon follows:

"Transporting dead fish taken by sport fishing from another jurisdiction is generally not a problem. The person transporting the fish should be able to explain the origin of the fish and provide supporting documentation. Also, it is helpful if the person transports the fish in a manner that they can be readily identified."
