If you main line is mono you do not need a snubber. Snubbers are moat important for Dipsys run on super braid lines. Good luck.

If you are pulling jet divers or dipsys, it is nice to use super line. That way there is little stretch, and you can quickly unsnap the dipsy to clear the lines on retreive.
If so, you need to attach a snubber after the dipsy but before the crankbait. I typicall use a 2 foot piece of line after the snubber, then the snubber, then the normal leader, with a cross lock snap on the end of the leader. I attach the cross lock snap to the crank bait.

Now, the snubber will allow the fish to make some moves, stretching as needed to preclude the fish from throwing the hook, as the diver or dipsy, tends to anchor the line in the water.

Without the snubber on non stretch line, it is quite a bit easier for the fish to throw the hook - particularly if you are hooked to a hard fighting fish like a rainbow or salmon. It is not quite the issue with a walleye, which tends to be a more steady pulling fish.

take care

IMHO I get better, more solid hook ups without snubbers. I use very soft rods (7-1/2' for jets/big boards and 8-1/2' size 0 dipsies off the corners)and 30 lb power pro. On the dipsies when using snubbers my hook ups were marginal at best, with many coming off in the net. With no snubbers it seems most times the hooks are buried deep and require pliers to remove. I do make sure the drags are as light as possible and I use the clicker also.

For jets off the boards I can't see why you would consider snubbers. If you were long lining them maybe, but again if your rods are soft enough I wouldn't think it would be necessary.

If I were going after salmon or trout I would use snubbers as REW stated.
