Hey guys:
Planning my fishing trip(s) for next year already assuming gas isnt $12.00/gallon by then. I am looking for recommendations for a mid June trip somewhere in the US (no Canada). I am looking for a lake/river etc where the bite generally heats up at that time like, for example, I have fished the post spawn bite in April on Erie around the Bass Islands, Lake of the Woods has a great downrigger bite in July & August, etc. Any help would be appreciated. |

Devils Lake, ND - That is the perfect time and Devils Lake is a Walleye factory.

After being at DL in mid May when things were starting to perk, I would have to agree that that would be a great trip a month later (mid June). If you want decent general fishing and good big fish fishing, Ft.Peck is usually going good in mid June and all area's of the lake will be producing. Lot's of big fish lately and they seem hungry. This would be a good option as well. Have fun, RJ in Montana..

3 Votes for Devils Lake. June is by far the best month here. Better make plans quick as resorts are already filling for next June.

Ever consider the Saginaw Bay? It is a great fishery, and that time of year the size of the fish average around 5 pounds with fish into the 8,9,and 10 pound class. They are still shallow in June, 10 to 15 feet of water and fairly easy to catch. If it is big fish you want this should be on of your considerations. If your interested let me know and i'll give you my e-mail address and you can contact me for some hot spots a want techniques for that time of year.

Lake Winnebago in June is pretty hard to beat. It's close to where you live so expenses aren't bad. If it's a trip you have in mind, I'll agree with Devils Lake. Talk to that J. Candle guy and he'll hook you up.

I would choose N.D.----Either Sak. or the Devil---or both.

Gentlemen, thanks for the replies an I'll answer some of your posts:
I fished Sakakawea each summer in July from about 1996-2001. Fishing was excellent and I plan to get back there someday. Problem is, it lacks a little from an accomodations standpoint and I am now bringing my 7 year old son on these trips (we did Lake of the Woods three weeks ago and stayed at Sportsman's per recommendation of a few here). I stopped taking a summer trip after '01 because I'm sure some of you know what its like to explain to the family that dad is going on a fishing trip in the summer alone! Fish Winnebago alot, expecially in June, but am looking for a trip. Fort Peck is one place I also intend on getting to someday, maybe when my son is a little older. So, if Devils is the place to be in mid June, do you guys have any recommendations on lodging. Specifically, I am looking if possible for a reort type thing where you can cook in the cabin, is close to a town, is at least close to a nice boat landing (or has docking facilities on the lake. I'm a little limited with my son being so young as its really hard for him to go on a trip like this, stay in a hotel all week, and eat out at the bar every night, if you know what I mean. |

From what your saying, I think Woodland resort would be a good fit. If you google Woodland resort you'll find a web site.
You could also look at staying at the Casino, however it may not be as good of a fit for bringing your children. That being said, the Casino has a very nice marina(docking boat without having to trailer each night), and the reservation is dry so there is no alcohol as well. The casino could work for a family. If you chose the Casino and want a slip in the marina, I suggest making that reservation well in advance - like this year. By next spring the marina may be booked. Take a look at both, post back if there are questions. |
