I'm going to be buying a new boat. I plan on buying 2 Lowrance locators. I likely will be buying one really good unit and one average unit. I'm looking for opinions on where I should mount the better unit; at the wheel or the bow? I fish all major Minnesota species (Bass, Walleye, Muskie, Northern). My dealer indicates that the better unit usually goes up front. Your thoughts?
Thanks |

I would put the better one where you spend most of your time.

Just a thought. When you are up front you are normally already on the spot and fishing a certain depth or hump.
Most put a better unit at the helm as that is where you are when you are searching for fish. Trolling would need a beter uit at the helm. Another thought....If you get an X111 you could put it up front and not need one at the helm... Just kidding... ChadM |

I don't know if it doable (think it might be) but I would want two units that have interchangable power cords & ducer cords.
Better able to salvage a trip if something goes wrong & simplifies troubleshooting if the need arises because you can swap stuff out. Down side is will have to decide where to put the better unit each trip. Regards, SS |

I wanted the best unit on the console.I did that, and am always going to the back comparing it with the front. I have upgraded twice on the front and am going to upgrade again. This time I am getting one to match the one on the console.
If I ever do it over again I will spend the money up front and buy two of the best instead of upgrading trying to save a buck. Have a good one. Texeye |

Good advise. I'm wondering if the Lowrance-net networking will change my opinion. Anyone know if both units are NMEA compatible will I be able to view the screen off the better unit on the lesser unit? I have no need for 2 GPS/WAAS units, but would like 1. It would be great if I could send a map to the non-GPS/WAAS unit.

Couldn't you mount the one on the console on a RAM mount and turn it towards the bow when your up there? Then you could compare them both easily with the turn of the head? Just a thought.... -Behr |

I like the "better" unit at the wheel. I'm a troller and spend alot of time at the wheel though. If I do need to sit up front and run the bow mount I spin my graph around which is mounted on a RAM. Then again, I rarely sit up front if using the bow mount. The copilot is a great little unit!! I don't even have to get my lazy butt out of the drivers seat...HEY HONEY, DEPLOY THE TM!! :7
