I know its been asked a thousand times, but what is the best pound line for trolling with planer boards? (the main line) I was thinking 80 pound main then a 8-10 lb leader??? Also is Tuffy line ok or what is everyone using?

Thank You.

10 XT. My only concern is when dragging it on bottom, the line can get alot of abrashions. I've pulled many of 10lb's in on this and have not had a break off on the main line. Also, remember the trolling guide is based off of 10 lb line.

But, for special applications, I'll use 30lb power pro.

Your going to get alot of answers on this one. I've talked to many of my fishing competitors and it seems that only about 10% use what I use.

Buy a spool of several brands, try them and then let us know what you like. (just being a wise a!!)

Good luck making up your mind.

30# Fireline and tie direct to a round end snap. No leader necessary and they only cause more break-offs due to the extra knots and lower strength. My opinion and I'm sticking with it.

80 lb main? uhm..you trolling for sharks or? ;)

Most people will use a braid with 10lb diameter to match the dive curves in the precision trolling book or straight 10lb mono. I prefer the braid and use power pro 40/10.

I think most actually use mono. I've been in more guys bats that use mono than anything else. I use 10lb XT, and haven't had any problems with it. I actually like the stretch when using it with boards.

I assume you are talking about inline boards.

I went to 30/8 powerpro for this. I have broken off 10 lb mono while pulling inline boards. I would rather have the saftey margin of the 30lb test, plus I still have the thin diameter. Also, I find that since the powerpro does not stretch, I can see small fish easier by watching the rod tip.

Another nice thing is the powerpro lasts a lot longer than mono so I dont have to change it every year.

OK, are you talking inline planar boards or "big boards".. The inline boards (Chruch, Offshore, etc) simply attach to your line and you have 1 board per line.. Big boards actually attach to the boat (yes, with much heavier than 30LB line) and using clips you can run several lines off 1 board. Given you're talking about using a leader I assume you're using inlines, so as others have said anything from 10 LB XT to 30lb superlines is more than adequate.

For my big boards I think I've got either 125 or 135# planar line from Fleet Farm (but it doesn't go on my fishing reel.:) )
